题目：Machine Learning Journey: From Small and Shallow to Big and Deep
In this talk, I will introduce my research journey in machine learning, transiting the models from shallow networks trained through small data to deep networks trained through big data. More specially, I will introduce two pieces of representative work from both academia and industry. One is a FasteR unsupervised Online Sketching Hashing (FROSH) algorithm, which can attain both effectiveness and efficiency with theoretical guarantee and empirical demonstration. The other work is to utilize BERT in Chinese word processing and to share the keen observations and how the algorithm evolves in a rapid industrial pace to tackle various practical scenarios.
Dr. YANG Haiqin just joins the AI team of Ping An Life Insurance of China as a senior expert. He also holds an adjunction assistant professor at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and a part-time lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was the recipient of the 2018 Asia Pacific Neural Network Society (APNNS) Young Researcher Award.
He is an expert in the area of machine learning and big data analytics, where he has published 2 monographs and over fifty journal articles and refereed conference papers. Dr. Yang also takes the responsibility to serve in the research community, where he is in the editorial board of Neurocomputing, and a senior program committee member, a program committee member or a reviewer of over 10 international conferences and a reviewer of over 10 journals.
