Designing and Rendering of 3D Models and Scenes
Designing 3D scenes/models and efficient rendering of them are both important topics in computer graphics. I will introduce several works on these topics. For designing, I will present Sketch2Scene, which automatically turns a freehand 2D sketch drawing into a well arranged 3D scene, and present Magic Decorator, which automatically generates materials and textures for 3D scenes. I will also show how to design 3D transforming pop-ups, which is a specific type of pop-up and is able to transform between two different shapes. For rendering, I will introduce a real-time rendering framework using spherical Gaussians, and show how it can be used in hair rendering, anisotropic effects rendering, and interreflection rendering.
Kun Xu is an associate professor in Computer Science at Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D. from the same university in 2009. He has published more than ten papers on top graphics conference and journals, such as ACM SIGGRAPH/TOG, IEEE TVCG and EuroGraphics/CGF, etc. He is a recipient of the second prize of the national natural science award of China in 2015, and a recipient of CCF Distinguish Ph.D. desseration award in 2009. His research interests include: real-time rendering, image ideo editing, and 3D scene construction.
