Title: 3D Deep Learning and Its Application to Volumetric Medical Image Analysis

Abstract

Deep learning represents data with multiple levels of abstraction and has dramatically improved the state-of-the-art in many domains including speech recognition, visual object recognition and natural language processing. Despite its breakthroughs in above domains, its application to volumetric medical image analysis remains to be fully explored. This talk will share our recent studies on developing state-of-the-art 3D deep learning methods including fully convolutional networks, deeply supervised nets, voxelwise and dense residual networks for medical image analysis, with an in-depth dive into several medical applications.

Bio

Hao Chen is a post-doc fellow of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and serves as the chief scientist at Imsight Medical Technology Inc. Previously, he received the Ph.D degree from CUHK and the B.S. degree from Beihang University (BUAA), China. He obtained the award of Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (HKPFS) in 2013 and Gold Medal Award from BUAA in 2012. He won the Best Paper Award in MIAR 2016. His research areas include medical image computing, deep learning, and computer vision. He has published more than 30 papers in top-tier conferences and journals, such as CVPR, ICCV, MICCAI, AAAI, MIA, IEEE-TMI, etc. He serves as the reviewer of several premium conferences and journals including NIPS, MICCAI, IEEE-TMI, NeuroImage, etc. The team he led has won 15 grand challenges on medical image computing, such as Gland Segmentation Contest, Endoscopic Vision Challenge@2015MICCAI, LUNA Challenge@2016ISBI, etc.
