College of Computer Science and Software Engineering
Building upon the former teaching and research unit of computer science at the Department of Electronic Engineering (1983) and the College of Software Engineering (2006), Shenzhen University established the College of Computer Science and Software Engineering in 2008. The First Dean of the college is Professor Guoliang Chen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Distinguished Teacher of Higher Education.
Since then and over the years’ development and advancement, the Computer Science at Shenzhen University has now become one of the leading subjects both nationally and globally. From 2020 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, Computer Science and Engineering of Shenzhen University is ranked Top 51-75 in the world, and 13-22 in China. According to the USNews 2020 Rankings, Computer Science of Shenzhen University is ranked top 68th in the world, 17th in China, and 1st in Guangdong Province. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 by subject lists the Computer Science of Shenzhen University on the 12th in China. Moreover, according to the cuaa.net 2019 Chinese Universities’ Computer Science and Technology Subject Ranking, Shenzhen University is ranked 6th in China and 1st in Guangdong province.
The research and teaching platforms in the college include one national engineering laboratory- National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology, 11 provincial-level platforms including the Guangdong Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy (Shenzhen), 5 municipal-level platforms and 2 national experimental demonstration centers (The Computer Experimental Teaching Center and the Virtual Simulation Experimental Center for Network Engineering ). In recent 5 years, the college has been approved 95 projects by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the research funding is more than 192 million RMB in total.
At present, the college has one Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Canadian Academy of Engineering, and Engineering Institute of Canada, 105 full-time faculty members, including 24 professors, 32 associate professors, and 49 assistant professors. Since its establishment, the college has made significant contributions to the Chinese higher-education, which can be evidenced by a large number of its graduates, who become distinguished computer scientists and engineers, including Ma Hua-Teng, the president and founder of Tencent Ltd, the most famous IT company in China.
